Cory Texter Back In Action At The Springfield Mile

65It has been a long 8 weeks since Cory Texter broke multiple bones in his left arm, went under the knife for surgery to repair the damage, and started rehab to strengthen the arm but the cast is off and he is ready to get back to racing this weekend at the Mile in Springfield, IL.

“I’m excited to come back to racing at the Springfield mile; it’s one of my favorite tracks and one I feel I can run up front at,” Texter comments. In the time he’s been sidelined healing, Texter and his team have been working hard on improving his singles and twins programs and Cory has done his part by keeping up with the rest of his physical training and workout regimen. Even though he was looking forward to running the TT, his arm is not healed enough to do so, so Texter is concentrating on “taking it lap by lap all day and ride (his) best” and hopefully that puts him somewhere up front. “Last year in the fall race, I was making my way through the pack into the top ten when my motor went south with seven laps to go.” He definitely is looking for a better result this time around. Lake Odessa, MI Race Report

July 11th, 2010

We headed to Lake Odessa this year and I was pretty excited to race. This is the first race since my injury that the doctor cleared me to race. I have been riding a couple times a week, working my way into pretty slow. I have the rest of my life to race, so I wanted to make sure I did this the right way. The main thing from the start was to get some riding time and to make sure I still knew how to ride a motorcycle & I wouldn’t need training wheels or anything like that, then the main thing was keeping it on two wheels til the doctor gave me clearance. Most people don’t realize how serious my injury was. It wasn’t just a typical broken bone. I broke 3, dislocated 1 and the main healing issue was the soft tissue damage I had & I continue to heal from. Now that he gave me clearance to race, its time to put on my work clothes and get busy. What’s up Doc?

July 8th, 2010

Hey Everyone,
Just a quick update; In the truth of it, I probably came back on my motorcycle quicker then I should of. I am young, hungry and determined. I couldn’t stand being off my bike for as long as I was. I was even out on my pitbike two weeks after surgery doing one-handed wheelies in the parking lot. I trained real hard all winter and had my first podium of the year in only the 2nd race of the season in Daytona and then I got hurt and had to sit all season so far. It is July and I have a couple months left to make some noise. I rode the Springfield Mile two weeks after I got my cast off and I missed the main event by a tenth of a second. I still don’t know how I rode back then because it was hard to lift my helmet to strap it on that day, but like I said, I was determined. I rode the Gas City national & that was painful and stressful and I said I wouldn’t race again til I felt competitive. I practiced a few times since and I had some “rehab” races in WV and MD over the weekend and although we ran into some problems at both races, I felt like I was back in the mix of things. The main thing I was having problem was the confidence of racing and being aggressive around my competitors like I was before and trying to keep the bike on two wheels at all cost and it really dampened my speed quite a bit. It was hard to focus on being competitive with the best of the best when I was more focused on my arm, then on winning the race. I kept it on 2 wheels, got some riding time and waited for the OK from the Doctor. Read the rest of this entry »
