I just wanted to get on here in the midst of the summer and let everyone know what I have been up to lately. I haven’t really been keeping up to date on my race reports. It seems as if as soon as I get home, clean up and work on the bikes all week, I am already at the next race and I drop the ball on them.
Since my first GNC main event of the year in Hartford, MI we have been staying pretty busy. We raced in Lima, OH where I qualified a season best 13th overall and managed a 7th in the one session only to start experiencing bike troubles. After a solid 6th in my heat, I ended up having a very poor showing in my semi and 3 of the guys I beat in the heat race ended up making the main as I sat and watched. It was a very low point in this season for me so far.
Then I headed to Frederick, MD the next weekend on July 4th. Frederick has been descent to me over the years. I struggled all day on the 450 and was running 5th on the last lap, when my shifter came off and kicked my bike into neutral. I almost drove straight into the hay bales and lost two spots to finish 7th. I wasn’t really going that good on that bike all day. We just couldn’t get it to handle for me. I felt good on my 750, but it was running like crap once again. I ended up a 3rd in my heat race, clutching it in the corners because it was spitting and sputtering on me. I made the dash for cash, but I ended up pulling off in it, because of how poorly the bike was running. We took it apart to find out that I fried another spark plug, only worse then before. I parked it and didnt race the main event which I was bummed about because on a good running bike, I think I had a good shot at a podium, for sure a top 5 finish.
Shayna let me ride her XR 750 at Hagerstown which I am very thankful for. Hagerstown is one of my worst tracks all year which is a bummer because it is also the closest, but it typically gets so slick. I have made the main here in 2009, but last year I finished like 12th in my semi. It took me a while to get used to the bike as I never rode it before. We got a 9th in the heat race and ended up with a close 7th in the semi from the 2nd row. I was only about a second and half away from a transfer spot and our lap times were getting better which was a positive, but we really were off on gearing. It’s been really tough to keep the bikes in top running shape working a full-time job and not having alot of help during the week.
I also did my first ever MX race the day after Hagerstown. I was running on 3 hours of sleep and we were racing in 100 degree heat. I didn’t take it as serious as I should I guess, but I was up to 2nd out of 40 guys in the first moto and I crashed in a rut and couldn’t get my bike started. I was pretty wiped in the 2nd moto and was running about 5th with a lap to go and I stalled the motor at the other end of the track and was took weak and fatigued to get the motor running again. I am going to train hard on this new bike and take another go at it. I think I have some potential and I also think it will help me in my dirttrack career. I also would like to get on a road race bike and have an opportunity if it presents itself to race the XR 1200 series in AMA Pro Road Racing.
I do want to thank Bryan Simcox, Rev’ n Kevin Varnes, Miss Amber Almony, The Longabaugh family, The Connelly family, The Hersh’s, Rich Meisenbach, Tom Mcgrane Jr, My grandparents, and all my sponsors for the support over these last couple weeks. It means alot and it really wouldn’t be imaginable if it wasn’t for your support.
