We headed out to Hartford, MI for this new track. I watched some videos on you tube and it looked pretty big and I grew up on clay tracks, so I was pretty excited. Shayna, her friend Becca, my girlfriend Amber, Myself and the dog made it out there by ourselves. Jimmy Varnes helped me out with some wrenching so we actually had a pretty good team for this day. I really look up to the whole Varnes family from Dolly & Jimmy to #89 Kevin, so it was cool to have them behind us.
There was alot of riders there. I think 54 or 56. First practice out, I was kinda slow. I didn’t feel slow, but our times proved I was slow as I was like 36th or something. I really have been sucking in qualifying to say the least. Not going to sugar coat that fact. Everyone was pretty close though, I just needed to change a little bit with the set-up of the bike. I think the 2nd round I was like 26th and then the final round I was 17th, so I was coming around. I was in the 2nd heat race. Coolbeth, Johnson, Jimmy Wood, Lewis, Logan Myers, Mataya, etc. I was on the very bottom of the front row and it wasn’t a good spot as the groove was up high and it was alot tackier near that. I was 6th off the line and that’s where I stayed. I didn’t gain much or loose much from the guys ahead of me. I knew I felt good, I just needed to put it together. In GNC flattrack, there are are so many good guys and we are all pretty close, that a holeshot is very important. Read more »

June 13th, 2011Springfield Race Report
June 1st, 2011This weekend was the annual May Springfield events. I really like Springfield. It has that feel to it that you don’t find anywhere else. After the TT rained out and was rescheduled for monday, our first event would be the Springfield Mile on sunday. I have really high hopes for the twins season this year. I feel like I am riding a twin very well and we have them dialed in for the most part. With the backing of Harley-Davidson, it really has me confident that I will be up front on these bikes. I have also had some good finishes thus far in some pro-am events on the XR750 so I felt ready to go. The program was shortened so there would be no semi’s and just heats. We had some issues in qualifying that we only got straightened out the last session and before then it was too late and I qualified way back in the mid 30′s. I went out for my heat race on the outside 2nd row and started picking guys off and I was up around 6th trying to work the outside. Around halfway my motorcycle seemed to be loosing a lot of power down the straight-aways and it was also handling really crappy in the corners. I thought I was running on one cylinder or something. I barley lifted the throttle the whole heat race and I finished 8th, 2 spots out of the main which the 6th place dude was only 10 bike lengths ahead at the finish. I was confused and frustrated. I came off the track and the thick metal # plate we use was pointing straight to the side. It’s about two and a half feet long of thick metal. It was catching a huge wind parachute. I know I wasn’t riding my best all day, but I know I was at least for sure main event capable and maybe could of squeaked in around 10th, but this definitely wasn’t the way I wanted to start of the twins season at one of the biggest races of the year with a lot of my sponsors being in the house. Daytona Race Reports…
March 13th, 2011Neeses & Savannah Tests
We started the Daytona trip by heading to our favorite track in Neeses, SC for a test & tune. We got the bikes dialed in there and headed to Savannah that night for their open practice. During the open practice, I felt great on both bikes. The Honda was running and handling awesome but I was really pleased with my speed on the twin.
Savannah All-Star Race
I felt good right out of the gate. The track was alot different then the practice night. It started to get a little slick and one lined. I typically never get good starts here and I am not sure why. I had stacked heats. In my 750 heat race, I had guys who won GNC’s last year in Halbert & Wiles and a few other national numbers. I got the holeshot and led the first two laps before Sammy got around me. He started to gap me a little as I gapped Wiles. Read more »
Springfield, IL Race Report
September 8th, 2010First and foremost, I wanted to take the time and thank every single one of you guys out there for the support you have showed Shayna & myself over the past week. For those of you who don’t know. My hero & our biggest fan passed away last monday. My father. He fought so hard his whole life with many different challenges. He truly amazed me every day. He took so much knowledge and experience with him, but God got a very special man up there now, and he is watching over all of us everyday. Shayna & I left right after his service friday and headed out to Springfield. It was extremely hard to do, but we know deep down inside that’s what he would of wanted and he would be proud, winners or not we were there and we rode hard. Read more »
Calistoga, CA
August 4th, 2010
These race reports haven’t been much fun writing lately writing about all the struggles we have been having, but what’s a good story without struggling a bit first, right? We headed out the farthest national of the year in Calistoga, CA. The positives were it was an awesome little area, the race track looked great, the fans were awesome and I even got to spend a couple hours at the pacific ocean which was amazing. Time to suit up and get on the race track.
I went out and I felt pretty consistent. Being hurt all year, I am in the non-seeded practice which sometimes is a bummer because of the riders I am placed with sometimes can damper my best qualifying time, but I was 10th the first session and 10th the second session with really consistent times. I have never been a strong qualifier so to be consistent in the top 10 all day so far was really cool and I felt like I had alot more in the tank. I was feeling great and having a lot of fun. Lake Odessa, MI Race Report
July 11th, 2010We headed to Lake Odessa this year and I was pretty excited to race. This is the first race since my injury that the doctor cleared me to race. I have been riding a couple times a week, working my way into pretty slow. I have the rest of my life to race, so I wanted to make sure I did this the right way. The main thing from the start was to get some riding time and to make sure I still knew how to ride a motorcycle & I wouldn’t need training wheels or anything like that, then the main thing was keeping it on two wheels til the doctor gave me clearance. Most people don’t realize how serious my injury was. It wasn’t just a typical broken bone. I broke 3, dislocated 1 and the main healing issue was the soft tissue damage I had & I continue to heal from. Now that he gave me clearance to race, its time to put on my work clothes and get busy. Springfield Race Report
May 31st, 2010Hey Everyone,
Thought I would pop on and update everyone on how my Springfield went. Nothing too exciting to report. I sat out the TT again this year because my wrist was nowhere near ready to ride it. I was pretty bummed out after watching it because it looked like alot of fun and something I know I could of been competitive on but it is what it is. I went back to the hotel and rested up. Got up early and had a good breakfast and tried to loosen up my wrist as much as possible for the mile. There were 59 riders for the mile. I was the first one out in all my practice groups. I was really nervous about riding again. I haven’t rode anything in 2 months and my wrist was very sore. I want to thank Dr. Dale at the track for taping it up good for me after I realized there was no way I wanted to ride with my CTi brace under my leathers. I was really nervous and only gathered up 41st time in the first session. The 2nd and 3rd sessions were alot better as I was 21st and 24th or so. I wasn’t drafting with anyone through-out qualifying which really hurts your time, so I knew I was alot faster then that but I didn’t feel comfortable on the bike at all. Any small jerk sent some sharp pains in my arm. Read more »
Daytona Race Report
March 7th, 2010
There is nothing better then leaving the sub-freezing temperatures in the north to come down to Daytona every year. We train all winter and burn the midnight oil in the shop all winter long getting ready for it. Although I wouldn’t call it our biggest event, it is our season kick off and everyone comes down with new equipment, new gear, and new sponsors. This year was no different. After shaking off some bugs from the winter testing the week before we headed down to line up against the best in the business and it was a roller coaster of a week. Here’s a short recap of how my 2010 Daytona turned out:
Pomona, CA
October 24th, 2009I was really excited to race in Pomona. I have not been to California in probably 10 years or so and I have never raced in California so it was going to be cool to open up to a whole new group of fans and race on some new soil. When we got there, the track looked awesome. I was so excited to get on the surface. As race day came along, I felt good all morning. Right as we started to unload, I started getting a scratchy throat. I figured it was just the air and dirt, but I was getting nervous. Sure enough as the day went on, I was feeling more and more sick and fatigued. By the time heats and semis came along, I felt like poop. I knew I had a job to do and I tried to stay as active as possible walking the track and I even tried to eat something to shrug it off. 3 days later and I am still feeling cruddy as I write this, so hopefully I feel better soon because this really stinks! Springfield , IL
September 8th, 2009What a long weekend in Springfield. Rain outs are never good for anybody and this weekend was full of rain. With all the rain, we did however get to race both our events, but they weren’t your typical “Springfield” race tracks. It left everybody shaking their head and wondering where to start with set-up, etc. Read more »
